Sakleshpur travel guide

How to reach our
homestay in Sakleshpur.

Sakleshpur is a hill town in Hassan district, Karnataka, at about 950 m in the Western Ghats. It's coffee, cardamom and pepper country, a classic weekend getaway from Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru.

By road

From Bengaluru, take the Bengaluru–Mangaluru highway (NH75) through Kunigal, Channarayapatna and Hassan to Sakleshpur. From Mysuru, drive up via Hassan. From Mangaluru, climb the Shiradi Ghat on NH75. In the monsoon, drive the ghat sections slowly and start early.

By train

Sakleshpur railway station sits on the scenic Bengaluru–Hassan–Mangaluru line, one of India's most beautiful rail routes through the Ghats. Hire a cab or auto from the station, and message us your arrival time for directions.

By air

Mangaluru International Airport is the nearest airport, followed by Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru. Both have taxis for the drive to Sakleshpur.

Why choose a homestay in Sakleshpur over a resort?

A homestay puts you inside the Malnad landscape rather than looking at it. At The GreenStay you eat what the region eats, cooked fresh three times a day. You wake up among coffee and cardamom estates with a spring-fed stream nearby. Groups can book the whole villa and have it to themselves. And instead of a reception desk, you get a caretaker who knows the local trails, waterfalls and viewpoints.

  • Ideal for family holidays, friend groups, corporate offsites and couples who want quiet.
  • Stay length 2 nights is perfect for a weekend; 3–4 nights to see Bisle, Mallalli Falls and Manjarabad Fort without rushing.
  • Pack walking shoes, a light jacket for misty evenings, and rain gear from June to September.
  • Book ahead for long weekends and festival dates. Message us on WhatsApp for quick confirmation.

How many guests can stay?

We have 5 rooms of varied capacity and can host up to 30 guests on multiple sharing. 27 guests sleep on wooden-frame beds, and we can add 5–6 floor beds.

How far is it from Bengaluru?

Approximately 240–260 km, depending on where you start. The road is in good shape all the way to the property's gate.

Is the food vegetarian or non-vegetarian?

Both. Our menu is mostly Malnad dishes. Let us know about any dietary restrictions when you book, and our cook will accommodate requests within reasonable limits.

Can we order extra food or a barbecue?

We accept advance orders for veg and non-veg starters — ask for the menu card ahead of time, as we're in a remote area. Barbecue is a paid add-on: we provide marinated chicken, a stand, charcoal and utensils; guests cook it themselves.

Is there mobile network?

Yes, Airtel, Jio and BSNL have decent coverage, though signal can vary because of the hills and may drop during heavy monsoon weather.

Do you arrange guided treks?

There are many trekking spots nearby. We don't provide guides, but our caretaker can give directions to accessible areas.

Can we cook our own meals?

Yes, self-cooking is available when you book the entire villa and no other guests are staying.

What are the kitchen hours?

7:00 AM to 10:30 PM. There's no night service, as our staff start early to prepare the next day's food.

What is the tariff?

₹2,500–₹3,000 per person per night, including accommodation, three home-cooked meals, morning coffee or tea, evening snacks, bonfire and games. Children under 5 stay free and children aged 5–10 pay 50%. Driver stay with food is ₹1,000. This tariff does not apply in December.

What is the best time to visit Sakleshpur?

October to February is the best time, with cool 15–25°C days and green landscapes. March to May suits family holidays, and June to September is the monsoon, when waterfalls are at their fullest.
